Third worst mistake you must avoid
Hanging the wrong sized artwork for the space
Artwork in the home is intended to create a home’s soul, showcases your personality and defines the personality of the space. The size of artwork in a space is really important in achieving this. Too big or too small. Both these mistakes are easy to avoid. Here are some examples for you to consider.
Too BIG!!!! In this case I would suggest making use of a long and narrow artwork instead.
Too small!! With a wall this large, I would suggest a huge feature statement piece.
Or, if that is not within budget, I would suggest 3 prints side by side.
Second worst mistake you must avoid
Hanging artwork by the frame. Just don’t! OK?
Hanging artwork this way will put pressure on the frame and cause it to warp. Over time it may even cause the frame to separate and break, crashing to the floor. Here is an example of what I am talking about, taken on a recent hotel stay.
The correct way to hang artwork is by a cord or wire strung across the back of the frame. This should be about a third of the way down and tightly secured either by mounts that are screwed in, or depending on the weight of the frame, staples. This will ensure that the pressure on the frame is pulling the sides together, rather than pulling the top of the frame away from the sides.
Number 1 worst mistake you must avoid
Spending loads of your precious time measuring
There is no need to get out the measuring tape and try to figure out the exact measurement where the artwork should be positioned. Ensuring that you’ve done a millimetre perfect job is just not necessary. Art is all about aesthetics, so just eyeball it. Yep. That’s right. Eyeball it. Trust me, the result will be far better.
What is really important is ensuring that you hang the artwork at the right height for the function of the room. Follow these simple steps with the help of a friend:
· One person holds the artwork against the wall whilst the other stands back and gives repositioning instructions
· Mark the position of the top of the frame on the wall lightly with a pencil
